In the late 1990’s, Susan Weece and Les and Pat Wilson had in their hearts to establish a school for the very poor children in rural Honduras. This school would teach the children that would be too poor to attend public school; would teach them “reading, ‘riting and ‘rithmetic” along with Bible and Bible principles of virtue. Even though education is mandated thru 6th grade and is “free” public education, there is cost of books/supplies, uniforms, etc that for many of the rural poor, even this limited education is not achievable. The site that the Lord had chosen was in El Socorro, a little village just outside of Siguatepeque, Honduras. The Wilsons had some property there, and some more was acquired, allowing for the school facility to be built. It was decided that Jardin de Gracia would be a primary school, serving grades 1-6.
The first mission group that went to Honduras was in Feb 2000. During the next few years, many people and churches supported and built the facility. The school was built in God's timing and in the fall of 2003, school was opened with first and second grades. There was a first grade added each year; with the first graduating class in June 2008.
The Wilsons and Susan have left the school for various reasons but the school still remains. It is a blessing for the village of El Socorro and to the children there. It is an answer to prayer for many families in the area, and only by God's grace that it is still functioning.
In 2013 the school added Kindergarten and celebrated it's Tenth Anniversary! It is amazing what God is doing in El Socorro through this little school.
